First Impressions

The JamboPhone is designed with affordability as a primary focus in mind. This necessitates using cost-effective components like processors, displays, and other internal hardware. Furthermore, streamlined manufacturing processes and potentially leveraging lower-cost production regions also contribute to keeping the device’s price down.
When it comes to durability, the phone can withstand everyday wear and tear, particularly in challenging environments; its build likely incorporates a sturdy frame and utilizes materials resistant to damage, such as shatter-resistant glass or impact-resistant plastics. However, using the case that came with the box is still recommended, providing additional protection against drops, bumps, and scratches.
Accessibility is also a key consideration for the company as the JamboPhone aims to be user-friendly, particularly for those with limited smartphone experience. This includes a simple and intuitive Android-based operating system, a large, clear display for readability, and a focus on essential functionalities like calling, texting, and basic internet access.
Furthermore, the JamboPhone’s design prioritizes power efficiency. This is important given the potential limitations in charging infrastructure in developing countries and emerging markets. Therefore, the phone has optimized software for power consumption, and incorporating power-saving modes helps maximize battery life.
Finally, network compatibility is crucial for widespread usability. You won’t find fancy 5G here, but it connects to 4G networks just fine, which is all most people need. This focuses on the phone’s target price point and the primary connectivity needs of users in emerging markets.
Design

The JamboPhone redefines the standard for what a smartphone should look and feel like. It has a sleek, minimalist design and effortless elegance, embodying luxury in the palm of your hand.
Display
The JamboPhone features a 6.5-inch (6.75-inch for the JamboPhone 2) LCD display with a 60hz refresh rate. While the peak brightness is sufficient for indoor use, it might be challenging to see clearly in bright sunlight.
Given the price point, it is not surprising that Jambo opted for an LCD display instead of a more vibrant AMOLED display. However, this choice might affect the overall multimedia experience, as LCD displays often lack deep blacks and vivid colors of AMOLED panels.
Cameras
The JamboPhone’s camera system is not that great, but it is decently serviceable. With a 13MP main camera and an 8MP front camera, you can expect decent photo quality in good lighting conditions for everyday use.
It can also record videos at 1080p in 30fps, though the quality might not be exceptional, especially in low light.
Meanwhile, the JamboPhone 2 boasts an upgraded 16MP main camera, while the front camera remains unchanged from its predecessor. However, it is worth noting that image quality is not solely determined by megapixels but also by the camera sensor’s capabilities.
Performance
Powered by Unisoc’s T606 Octa-Core Processor, the JamboPhone offers sufficient performance for everyday tasks like browsing, streaming, and social media.

Moreover, when it comes to gaming, the phone can handle heavily-intensive games such as PUBG Mobile, Genshin Impact, and their partner, MATR1X FIRE.
As for the JamboPhone 2, it is powered by the Unisoc T616 Octa-Core Processor and likewise can power the phone’s many features, including its display, storage, gaming, and battery.
Battery Charging
The JamboPhone packs a 4,900 mAh battery, lasting around 6-7 hours of screen time under typical usage. While the battery life is average for this price range, it should be sufficient for most users.
The JamboPhone 2, on the other hand, has 5,000 mAh, supports fast charging, and can last around 12 hours of screen time, which is a huge jump from the previous model.
Jambo App

The Jambo App is a key component of the JamboPhone and serves as a gateway to Web3, offering users access to various decentralized applications (dApps) through a secure multi-chain wallet. The Jambo App has three following features:
- JamboEarn – JamboEarn allows users to earn rewards by completing various tasks and engaging with the platform. This can include activities like watching videos, participating in surveys, and referring friends.
- JamboPlay – JamboPlay is a dedicated gaming platform within the app, offering access to a diverse range of games, allowing users to enjoy entertainment while potentially earning rewards through gameplay.
- JamboWallet – Lastly, JamboWallet is a secure and convenient digital wallet for users. It enables seamless transactions within the Jambo ecosystem, facilitating the transfer and management of earned rewards.
These apps are pre-installed on the JamboPhone and tailored to users’ needs in developing countries.
JamboGPT

JamboGPT is an AI integration featured in the JamboPhone 2, designed to enhance the user experience. It is expected to significantly improve phone functionality by providing features such as answering questions, generating text, offering personalized recommendations, and streamlining various tasks, ultimately creating a more intuitive and personalized user experience for JamboPhone 2 users.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to use this feature as I only have the first version of the JamboPhone.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the JamboPhone is designed to be easy to use and perfect for folks who are not tech-savvy. It is basically a no-frills phone that onboards you to Web3 and gets the job done without costing a fortune.
With the recent release of their JamboPhone 2, all for the same price of $99, the latest flagship model is clearly the better choice for those interested, compared to the previous version of what I currently have in hand when making this review.
